Herbert Osborn Award

OHIO BIOLOGICAL SURVEY
HERBERT OSBORN AWARD

Note: Nominations for the Herbert Osborn Award can be made at any time during the year. Please send nominations to the Ohio Biological Survey, P.O. Box 21370, Columbus, OH 43221-0370.

Purpose: The Ohio Biological Survey, in honor of its founder, established the Herbert Osborn Award to recognize noteworthy accomplishments and service in the field of biology as pertaining to the objectives of the Ohio Biological Survey. The Award is presented on an annual basis, and was initiated in 1991.

Qualifications: Recipients of the Herbert Osborn Award will be individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of knowledge concerning the occurrence, distribution, taxonomy, and/or ecology of the flora and/or fauna of Ohio. The intent of the Award is to recognize relevant accomplishments and service over a period of years.

Solicitation of Nominations: Nominations for the The Herbert Osborn Award will be solicited annually from the Ohio Biological Survey membership and other concerned individuals by the Selection Committee, and via this notice.  Nominations should include a letter of nomination and a resume that will contain a listing of the worthy contributions of the individual. Nominations will be active for a period of three years after which individuals may be renominated.  Material received in support of a nominee should not exceed five pages.

Selection Process: A committee will be established by the Executive Committee of the Survey, “The Herbert Osborn Award Selection Committee,” to review the qualifications of nominees. Each member of the committee will evaluate the applicants and place them in a ranked order. The three nominees with the highest rank order will then be voted on by the members of the Selection Committee. The nominee with the highest rating will be named the recipient of the Award. Only a single award will be offered each year. If a member of the Award Selection Committee is nominated for the award, that member must excuse her or himself, or decline the nomination. The award will be presented at the annual advisory council meeting of the Ohio Biological Survey.


Naturalist Award

OHIO BIOLOGICAL SURVEY
NATURALIST  AWARD

Note: The Survey is actively soliciting nominations for the fourth Ohio Biological Survey Naturalist Award. Please send nomin- ations to the Ohio Biological Survey, P.O. Box 21370, Columbus, OH 43221-0370.

Purpose: The Ohio Biological Survey wishes to honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to our understanding and conservation of the natural heritage of Ohio.

Qualifications: An individual selected to receive the Ohio Biological Survey Naturalist Award will have worked energetically to acquire or disseminate knowledge, conserve natural areas, and/or foster our understanding of the fauna and flora of Ohio. The awardee will be an active contributor over a period of years in pursuit of the activities concerning the natural heritage of Ohio.
