OHIO NATURAL HISTORY CONFERENCE

Wildlife The 6th annual Ohio
Natural History Conference will take place on February 20th, 2010 at
Big Walnut
High School, 555 South Old 3C Road, Sunbury, Ohio, 43074.
Directions are given below.
Encompassing the broad range of
topics inherent in the term “natural history,” the conference includes short
papers in areas such as biodiversity, field biology, systematics and related
areas. Individuals
interested in applying for the opportunity to give a 15-20 minute oral
presentation or to present a poster should submit an abstract and
a biographical sketch of no more than 250 words each for all
authors by e-mail to ohiobiosurvey@rrohio.com, or by mail to the
address below by December 4th, 2009.
This is a strict deadline for oral presentations, and any submission
after then will be considered only for a poster. From the submitted abstracts
for oral presentations, eight (8) will be selected by the Conference Committee
for inclusion in the Conference. All applicants will be notified by December 18th of the
Committee’s decisions, and a conference agenda will be available shortly
thereafter. Submissions for poster presentations will be accepted through
January 29th, 2010.

We are pleased to announce our
keynote speaker, Kenn Kaufman, presenting
“Fresh Fields: the World View of a Perpetual Beginner”. Kenn is a world-renowned naturalist best
known for his North American Focus Guides
series on Birds, Butterflies, Insects and Mammals, with more titles to
come. Kenn writes regularly for Audubon, Bird Watcher’s Digest and Birder’s World, and leads natural
history field trips worldwide. We are
fortunate that he has chosen to live in northwestern Ohio.
Refreshments and social time will begin at 9:00,
and the keynote presentation will commence at 10 AM. Registrations fees are $20, or $10 for
students. A special fee of $5 will be
offered to students of Big
Walnut High
School. On-site
registration fees will be an additional $5 per registration ($25, or $15 for
students). The Conference concludes at 4 PM.

School: From Columbus,
Take I-71 north to the US-36/OH-37 exit toward Delaware/Sunbury. Head east toward Sunbury, and turn right, or
south on S. Columbus Street
(Old 3C
Road). The high school will be on the
left just past town. Park at the main
parking lot and enter through the front foyer.
Herbert Osborn Award
The Ohio Biological Survey, in honor of its founder, established the Herbert
Osborn Award to recognize noteworthy accomplishments and service in the field
of biology as pertaining to the objectives of the Ohio Biological Survey.
The Award is presented on an annual basis, and was initiated in 1991. [more info...]
Naturalist Award
The Ohio Biological Survey wishes to honor those individuals who have made
significant contributions to our understanding and conservation of the natural
heritage of Ohio. [more info...]
Small Grants - The
Ohio Biological Survey annually allocates monies to fund a limited number
of small grants for faculty, staff, and students of OBS member institutions
(maximum of $500 per award) and for OBS individual members (maximum of $250
per award). Proposals are due by February 1st of each year.
